Robert E. Shields

Bob Shields was one of the founders of Doffermyre Shields Canfield & Knowles LLC. Previously, he was a partner with the Atlanta-based firm now known as Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP.

Mr. Shields graduated cum laude from New York University School of Law in 1971, where he was a Root-Tilden Scholar, awarded a Founder's Certificate for graduating in the top 5 percent of his class, and admitted into the Order of the Coif. He also was an editor of the NYU Law Review, a contributing author to the Annual Survey of American Law, the Law School Moot Court Champion, and a member of NYU's National Moot Court Team, which placed second at the national finals.

Mr. Shields received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Wichita State University in 1968. Among numerous other honors, he served two terms as president of the student body, president of several campus organizations and was selected as one of five Senior Honor Men.  In 1968, he was the National Collegiate Debate Champion and was selected as the National Student Speaker of the Year by the speech honorary, Delta Sigma Rho-Tau Kappa Alpha.

Mr. Shields published numerous articles and several book chapters, primarily about hazardous waste and toxic torts. He held teaching positions at Georgia State University College of Law and Emory University School of Law.  He was a frequent speaker at seminars and meetings throughout the country.

Mr. Shields was a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and an Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates. He was a founding member and Past President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. In addition, Mr. Shields was listed in Best Lawyers in America, named a “Georgia Superlawyer” by Atlanta Magazine, selected by the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 as a member, designated a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation, and listed as a Leader in Litigation in Georgia by Chambers USA’s Leading Business Lawyers.  He was awarded GreenLaw’s Environmental Lawyer of the Year.

Bob tried over 200 cases in 20 states and was a member of the Georgia, California and Kansas Bar Associations.
